The Secrets to Perfectly Furnishing Your Mountain Home Revealed

High Point Market is coming soon! I can’t wait.

If you have heard of it then you understand my excitement, as an Interior Designer, about going.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, let me give you a brief overview of it.

It takes place twice a year, in April and October, in High Point, North Carolina, and it's always a lot of fun, but also a lot of work.

It is literally the entire downtown area of High Point NC. Every building is filled with furniture and decor showrooms! Some of the buildings are several stories high.

You can find EVERYTHING home related at High Point.

From fabrics, sofas, chandeliers, vases, and florals, to rugs, pottery, drapery, and so much more!

Here is a map of the Market for reference. Each of those little blocks along the streets are buildings and showrooms.

It’s kind of insane to be honest.

This is the one place where you will find interior designers ditching their heels for their cutest sneakers.

High Point is the event where furniture industry professionals gather to stay up-to-date with the latest trends, construction techniques, features, fabrics, and styles. It provides a great opportunity to connect and learn from others in the industry.

As someone who works in the furnishings and decor industry, attending Market is essential for discovering all the latest furniture and decor manufacturers. This helps us to provide the best selections for our interior design projects...and ultimately YOUR home!

Which leads me to the SECRETS of a perfectly furnished mountain home that I promised you!

For clarity, only those who are business owners in the furnishings industry are allowed to attend Market. I would never even recommend a regular consumer attend anyway. It is overwhelming and you can’t purchase items at Market as it is strictly wholesale.

Here are a few photos from my last High Point visit!

So if you’re building a new home in a mountain town and you need your entire home furnished or you need a refresh of your current furniture and decor, one of the struggles you are likely encountering is finding everything you need close to home.

Many towns located in mountainous regions have limited options for retail stores that sell furnishings and decor. This forces shoppers to travel to larger cities to make their purchases, which can be costly due to the expenses of staying long enough to complete their shopping, mapping out all the stores they wish to visit, keeping track of items they like at each store, making the purchases, and arranging for delivery, which can also be expensive, especially when delivering to smaller towns.

A convenient option is to shop online, which also has its pitfalls such as the inability to see the furnishings in person and being forced to match colors using internet images.

So what is the SECRET?

Well, hiring an interior designer, of course!!

reasons to hire an interior designer

Hiring an interior designer is the secret to perfectly furnishing your mountain home for several compelling reasons.

  1. Firstly, a professional designer possesses the expertise to bring the essence of the surrounding mountain landscape into your home, infusing natural elements, textures, and colors that harmonize with the environment.

  2. Additionally, an interior designer has the knowledge and experience to optimize space and flow within your home, ensuring that every corner is utilized efficiently while maintaining a sense of openness and comfort.

  3. Moreover, designers have access to exclusive resources (hence my intro about High Point Market), including unique furniture, textiles, and decor that may not be readily available to the public, enabling them to create a truly distinctive and personalized mountain retreat.

  4. Finally, entrusting the furnishing of your mountain home to a designer grants you the freedom to focus on enjoying the natural beauty and recreational opportunities surrounding your residence, while the designer handles the complexities of bringing your interior vision to life.
